I love my multicultural, nondenominational church. The band, worship leaders, and ministers serve with excellence as we give honor to the Spirit of God. But we rarely sing hymns. To some people, hymns are considered old-fashioned and, apparently, have too many words for people to grasp during worship.

Someone once told me that they really disliked hymns. They felt they were too wordy, lacked creativity, and weren’t relevant to the people of today. I didn’t say anything in response, but my thoughts were, “Seriously! Have you actually read the words of a hymn? They are full of emotion, creativity, and relevancy as far as I’m concerned.” Take the song “It Is Well With My Soul”:
